Self Isolation: Why I Withdraw When I Feel Overwhelmed

I’m the type of person who feels everything very deeply- Either good or bad- which can be draining and exhausting. It's something out of my control but I have a way to manage when it becomes too much for me: self isolation. It's not the best way but I learned to get the most of it.

I’ll cancel plans and avoid most of my social interaction to the point that I might delete my social media apps or deactivate them. I did that recently but I'm planning to return as I'm feeling better and ready to interact again.

I take some time by myself to process situations without distractions– usually a day or two- to reconnect with how I feel and to get in touch with my emotions without outside interference.

It also helps me in my decision-making process.

This might seem selfish or sad thing to do, but sometimes it's necessary to protect our energy and to avoid upsetting other people.

I try my best not to spread any negative energy when I feel it.

Self isolation gives me the chance to disconnect from the world and recharge my mental and physical energy to be able to return to my regular life better than before.

During this time, I do more of the things that make me happy and help me relax.

It can be tough to know when to take a break and how to make the most of our time while we're isolated, but it is important to remember that self-care is a priority.

How to know when you need to withdraw?

It can be difficult to decide when you need to step back and spend some quality time alone. Generally, feeling drained or stressed should be a sign that it’s time to take some time for yourself.

Pay attention to your feelings, if you find yourself feeling exhausted or anxious, it could be a sign that you need to take a break and that you need to take some time away from social situations.

How to make the most of your time while self-isolating?

Start by focusing on your needs, making sure you are getting enough rest, eating healthy and taking care of your physical and mental health.

Additionally, spend some time doing activities that bring you joy, whether that be reading, watching movies, or playing video games.

The importance of self-care during self isolation:

Self-care is one of the most important aspects of self-isolation. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself during this time.

Schedule time for meditation, journal your thoughts and feelings, and practice self-compassion.

Don't forget to prioritize physical activity as it can help keep your mental and physical health in check. Don't sit on your couch or lay in bed all day long.

Tips during self-isolation:

The most important tip is: don't take too long time, few days are enough

Have fun, enjoy your time, go for walks, listen to the playlist of songs that were popular when you were a teenager and dance like no one is watching.

Be kind to yourself, forgive yourself and use this time to become your own best friend (you can have as many friends as you want but your friendship with yourself is the most valuable one).

Talk to an expert or professional if you feel concerned and can't go out of this state.

To wrap things up

Self-isolation can be a powerful tool for self-care. Remember to be mindful of how you are feeling and to prioritize your wellbeing. Use this post as a simple guide for people in your life to understand self isolation that sometimes you need to do.
