Why I Deactivated My Social Media Instead Of Deleting The Apps

Social media has become a part of our lives. We use it to connect with people, stay up to date on news and current events, and even promote our businesses or personal brands.

As much as social media can be a helpful tool, it can also be toxic and have negative effects on our mental health. It has become a source of stress and anxiety for me. I felt like I was spending too much time scrolling through my feeds and not enough time being present at the moment or doing things I truly enjoyed.

After some reflection, I decided to take a break from social media for some time. It wasn't an easy decision, but I knew it was the right one for my mental health and overall well-being. During my time away from social media (that started yesterday) I will focus on connecting with myself and doing things that bring me joy.

Taking a break from social media will allow me to gain perspective and reevaluate my relationship with it to be able to use it with moderation and in a way that supports my mental health and overall well-being.

Taking regular a break from social media can help to maintain a healthy relationship with it and will give me a chance to reset and "detox".

Before I reactivate my social media accounts, I will set some boundaries for myself. For example, I might decide to only check social media at certain times of the day or limit the amount of time I spend on it.

I will also unfollow or mute accounts that overwhelm me or trigger negative feelings or thoughts without hesitation once I'm back on my social media accounts.

I chose to deactivate my social media accounts instead of just deleting the apps because I wanted to take a more intentional break so I wouldn't be tempted to check them.

Here are some tips for taking a break from social media (that I will do my best to follow):

-Set a goal: Before taking a break, consider what you hope to achieve. Do you want to reduce stress and anxiety? Increase productivity? Spend more time connecting with loved ones?.

-Choose a length of time: Decide how long you want to take a break. It could be a few days, a week, or even a month. Make sure the length of time is realistic and achievable for you.

-Fill your time with other activities: Plan activities that you enjoy and that don't involve social media. This could be spending time in nature, reading, cooking, or exercising.

How to stay motivated to stick to your social media break?

-Remind yourself why you're taking a break: Whenever you feel tempted to check social media, remind yourself of the reasons why you decided to take a break in the first place. This will help you stay focused on your goals and motivated to stay on track.

-Track your progress: Keep track of how long you've been on your social media break and celebrate your progress along the way. You might even consider rewarding yourself with something you enjoy when you reach certain milestones.

-Focus on the benefits: Stay focused on the benefits of taking a break from social media, such as reduced stress and anxiety.

This break will allow me to focus on myself without distractions and without facing situations where I'm constantly judged and overwhelmed.
