DIY Hair Mask: Refresh Your Curls at Home

Winter months caused some damage to my hair and made the curls less bouncy, so I decided to try a homemade hair mask to tackle this problem.

The recipe for the DIY hair mask is easy: just two spoons of yogurt, two teaspoons of honey, one egg, and a splash of instant coffee, mix them together until they form a creamy formula. The quantity can vary based on hair length and thickness.

Yogurt has moisturizing properties, honey helps to lock in moisture, and eggs are rich in protein which can strengthen and nourish hair. The addition of instant coffee is to add shine to your hair color.

I mixed the ingredients in a bowl, the mixture had a slightly runny texture, making it easy to apply to my hair but you need to cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Also, wear an old shirt or put a towel over your shoulders to avoid stains.

I  applied the mask to my hair from roots to ends, focusing on the ends because they have more damage. I left the mask on for one hour then washed my hair with a gentle shampoo.

My hair felt softer and smoother, and there was a noticeable shine to it. The frizziness was also significantly reduced.

The mask did not weigh down my hair or leave any greasy residue. My curls felt more hydrated and looked better. The instant coffee also added a vibrant glow to my dark hair color.

While I still love my store-bought hair masks, it's nice to have a budget-friendly option that I can do at home.

This hair mask worked well for me, as with any beauty product, but results may vary for different hair types so I recommend doing a patch test before using this mask all over your hair, especially if you have any allergies to the ingredients.
