Online arguments: To reply or ignore

Social media witnessed an increase in online arguments and heated debates, while it may be tempting to engage in these arguments to defend our stance, we should understand why it's better not to engage in online arguments when raising awareness about important causes.

Engaging in online arguments can be counterproductive to the cause you advocate for. The purpose of using social media to raise awareness is to educate and inform others about the issue at hand. When an argument breaks out, it often shifts the focus away from the cause and onto the argument itself.

This not only serves as a distraction but also dilutes the impact of your message. It's better to stay focused on the cause and avoid getting entangled in unnecessary debates.

Online arguments can often turn into a personal attack, with people resorting to name-calling, insults, and aggressive language. This reflects poorly on the cause you are advocating for.

Your goal is to educate and engage, not to attack or belittle others. By engaging in online arguments, you're harming the cause.

Online arguments can quickly escalate, leading to a never-ending cycle of back and forth comments. This can be exhausting and draining, both mentally and emotionally. Don't get caught up in endless arguments.

You aren't obligated to respond to every comment or engage in every argument. So, how do you deal with someone angry in your comment section?

Remain calm and composed. Do not let their anger or aggression affect you and your message. You can choose to ignore the comment altogether and focus on engaging with those who are genuinely interested in learning more about the cause.

In case the comment is derogatory or abusive, do not hesitate to delete it and block the user. As a social media user, you have the right to moderate the comments on your post and ensure a safe and respectful space for discussion. You can also choose to disable comments on your post if you feel that it will be more beneficial for the cause.

While engaging in online arguments when raising awareness about important causes may be tempting, it is better to avoid them. These arguments can be counterproductive, toxic, and exhausting. Instead, focus on educating and engaging with your audience respectfully. The goal is to bring about positive change, not to win an argument. So, choose your battles wisely and use social media as a powerful tool for creating a meaningful impact that can help you reach a wide audience.
